Two 3D bimetallic coordination polymers, Mn(tvp)2[Ag(CN)2]2(I) and Cd(tvp)2[Ag(CN)2]2(II) (tvp = trans-4,4′-vinylenedipyridine), have been synthesized and characterized. The complexes I and II are isomorphic. They crystallize in monoclinic P2(1)/n space group. The coordination geometries of Mn2+ and Cd2+ ions in two complexes are distorted octahedrons [MN6]. The equatorial planes are difined by four N atoms of four different cyano groups, the axial positions are occupied by two N atoms of the two tvp ligands. In the two complexes, the other N atom of the tvp ligand coordinates to the Ag+ ion of the subsequent layer, resulting the Ag+ ions are three-coordinated triangle and the formation of 3D coordination polymers. Moreover, the topologies of the two complexes show that they belong to rutile-type structures.
