A novel reversed Hoogsteen mode is observed for the base-pairing of 8-amino-2′-deoxyadenosine with 2′-deoxythymidine in low dielectric solvent. The results may have important significance for designing novel DNA duplexes and triplexes incorporating 8-amino-dA.
