BaU2O7 is tetragonal, space group 141/amd, with a = 7·128 Å, c = 11·95 Å. The uranium atoms are in octahedral co-ordination, and linear uranyl groups are present. The octahedra are joined by sharing edges, and form endless chains in the a and b directions. The main features of the infra-red spectrum of this compound are discussed in terms of its structure.
