Four 3D coordination polymers {[Zn(bib)(ndc)]·0.25H2O}n (1), [Cd(bix)(ndc)]n (2), [Cd(bix)(mbda)]n (3) and [Cu(bix)0.5(glu)]n (4) were synthesized and characterized (bib = 1,4-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)butane, bix = 1,4-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-1-methyl)benzene, H2ndc = 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, H2mbda = 1,3-benzenediacetic acid, H2glu = glutaric acid). 1 shows a 4-fold interpenetrating 3D dia network. 2 and 3 exhibit the 4-coordinated self-catenated 3D architecture. 4 exhibits a 6-coordinated self-catenated 3D architecture based on [Cu2(COO)4] unit with the paddle wheel structure. The luminescence of 1–3 and thermal stabilities of 1–4 were investigated. 4 is a good photocatalyst for degradation of rhodamine B.
