Synthesis and characterization of 5-chloro-2-(2',2',2'-trifluoroethoxy)-3-tris(2',2',2'-trifluoroethoxy)methylpyridine

During direct trifluoroethoxylation, both the 2-chloro group and the three fluoro groups of 2,5-dichloro-3-trifluoromethylpyridine were substituted by trifluoroethoxy groups. The product was characterized by mass spectrometry and by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. A possible reaction mechanism is suggested.
