Hydrazones (HL) derived from N-(p-toluenesulfonyl)-3-acetylpyrrole with acetylhydrazine, methyl carbazate, and semicarbazide were cyclopalladated with lithium tetrachloropalladate in the presence of sodium acetate in methanol to give [PdClL]. The complex (HL=acetylhydrazone) reacted with a ligand (D) to give the adduct [PdClLD] (D=pyridine, triphenylarsine, tri-p-tolylphosphine, and n-butyldiphenylphosphine) or [PdClL(D)2] (D=tri-n-butylphosphine). These complexes were characterized spectroscopically. Palladation is supposed to occur at 4-C of a pyrrole ring. In [PdClL] the cyclopalladated hydrazones act as a terdentate ligand coordinated through pyrrole 4-C, imino-N, and carbonyl-O atoms.
