The extraction separation behaviour of Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) from aqueous solutions of various pH values and complexing agents using 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-(p-nitrobenzoyl)-5-pyrazolone has been investigated. The possible extraction mechanism and the compositions of the extracted species have been determined. The separation factors for these metals using the reagent are reported, while efficient methods for the separation of Fe(III) from Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) are proposed.
