Syntheses of (+)-and (-)-2-methoxy-4-(s-methyl-n-[(4-methylphenyl)-sulfonyl]-sulfonimidoyl)-benzoic acids and their absolute configurations

The synthesis of enantiomerically pure (+)- and (-)-2-methoxy-4-(S-methyl-N-[(4-methylphenyl)-sulfonyl]-sulfonimidoyl)-benzoic acid 4a was carried out. The chemical correlation of (+)-(S)-S-methyl-N-[(4-methylphenyl)-sulfonyl]-4-methyl-phenyl)-sulfoximide 13 with (+)-4a was undertaken. The absolute configuration was found to be (S). Since both antipodes of 4a have been used for the synthesis of the isomazole enantiomers, their absolute configuration was established as well.
