SummaryEleven strains, representative of the lipomycetaceous genera Dipodascopsis, Lipomyces, Waltomyces, Zygozyma, and Myxozyma, were examined for the formation of FERRICHROME (cas 15258-80-7) and Ferrichrome C, induced by culturing in low-iron media.Ferrichrome formation was detected in strains of Dipodascopsis uninucleata and Myxozyma mucilagina, and Ferrichrome C in strains of Dipodascopsis tóthii, Zygozyma oligophaga, Myxozyma geophila, Myxozyma lipomycoides and Myxozyma melibiosi. D. tóthii formed a second as yet unidentified ferrichrome. Neither Ferrichrome nor Ferrichrome C were detected in strains of Lipomyces kononenkoae, Lipomyces starkeyi, Liipomyces tetrasporus and Waltomyces lipofer.
