A solution of 4,4′-dimethyldiphenyl iodonium tetrafluoroborate and N,N-dimethylaniline in acetonitrile is irradiated by UV light to give iodotoluene, toluene, 4-4′-methylenebis(N,N-dimethylaniline) crystal violet, methyl violet.
