The use of hydrogen peroxide and sodium hypochlorite for the oxidation of a 1 × 10−4 M aq solution of C.I. Acid Brown 349 was investigated. The influence of Fe2+ concentration ranging from 0 to 50 mg L−1 and various doses of oxidant at different pH values and temperatures was investigated. High decolorisation (∼100%) was obtained under optimal reaction conditions. A tentative mechanistic pathway for the oxidative degradation of the dye in aqueous solution is postulated; in addition, the thermal degradation of the in air was discussed.
