SummaryIn vitro studies with both liver homogenates and actively growing cells in culture have shown that indospicine (cas 16377-00-7), a structural analogue of arginine, can competitively inhibit arginine metabolism. In this report a further example of such an action is presented. Mouse bone marrow cells were cultured for four days and the effect of the presence of indospicine in the culture medium was tested by measuring the incorporation of 3H-thymidine into newly formed DNA. It was found that inhibition developed as the cultures aged, and that the degree of inhibition was related to the concentration of indospicine. The inhibition could be reversed by the addition of arginine to the medium.
