Electrochromic properties of a vinyl polymer containing pendant 1,4-di(2-thienyl)benzene

A novel electrochemically-doped vinyl polymer containing 1,4-di(2-thienyl)benzene as a pendant group has been prepared by anodic polymerization of the corresponding vinyl monomer in the presence of tetra-n-butylammonium perchlorate as a supporting electrolyte and its electrochromic properties investigated. The resulting polymer undergoes a reversible, clear color change from purple to colorless and vice versa on electrochemical dedoping and doping.
