The i.r. spectra of some phosphate—arsenate strontium apatites and phosphate—vanadate strontium apatites have been studied and the assignments of their bands realized. It is shown that the symmetry of the distinct anions depends on the apatitic composition and it is suggested the existence of a mechanism of continuous anion migration throughout the apatite lattice.
