Infra-red spectra of permanganates

The infra-red spectra of 9 hydrated permanganates and of 10 anhydrous permanganates have been measured from 2000 to 400 cm−1. The identity of the samples was confirmed by chemical analysis and by X-ray powder diffraction. The results are discussed in terms of the site symmetry of the permanganate group.
