Magnetic measurements on dysprosium sulphate octahydrate and the nature of its ligand field

The results of the magnetic susceptibility measurements on a single crystal of dysprosium sulphate octahydrate are given. A tentative approximation to the symmetry and strength of the crystalline electric field at the site of the dysprosium ion is made on the basis of these results. The calculated g values are also discussed.
