The oxidation of Tb(III) in K2CO3-KOH solution was studied. The concentrations of terbium, carbonate and hydroxide ions are critical for generation and stabilization of Tb(IV). Redox titrations of Tb(IV) with the Fe(CN)64− ion and the analysis of Tb(IV) precipitates indicate that the Tb(IV) complex in solution has a clustered nature.
