Hexafluoroarsenate as a non-coordinating anion in lanthanide complexes with the diphenyl sulphoxide ligand

A series of compounds of general formula [Ln(dpso)7](AsF6)3 (dpso diphenyl sulphoxide; Ln Y, La-Lu) was synthesized and characterized. IR spectroscopy indicates that the dpso is coordinated through its oxygen atom and that the Oh symmetry of the AsF6− is not changed. The emission spectrum of the europium(III) complex in the visible region shows a group of lines in agreement with C3v symmetry.
