A study of the system Rb2OTa2O5 shows the existence of six phases. One phase α (1-1) stable up to 600°C, two phases β1 and β2(2–3) with orthorhombic unit-cells. The phase δ(2–5) is a cubic pyrochlore. The structure of the ζ phase (3–8) with a monoclinic unit-cell is intermediate between pyrochlore and hexagonal bronze-type. Lastly, the structure of the η phase (about 1–3, 7) belongs to the hexagonal bronze type.
