1.1. The desiccation tolerance of the introduced tropical toad Bufo marinus is similar to other terrestrial anuran amphibians (52·6 per cent of total body water), while the resistance to the hydration stress of distilled water is that of an aquatic anuran.2.2. The critical thermal maxima of ca. 40°C for adults and 42°C for larvae are high enough so that high ambient temperatures are not limiting.3.3. The lower temperature limit (below 10°C) permits continued survival in its present South Florida range, but shifting of this limit must occur before the range can expand into temperate Florida.
