Infrared and raman studies of the methyl cis undecenoates and of the methyl undecynoates

The infrared spectra (of CCl4 solutions) and the Raman spectra (of the neat liquids) of the eight isomeric methyl cis-undecenoates, of methyl undec-10-enoate, and of the nine isomeric methyl undecynoates have been obtained. Conjugation of the double bond with the carbonyl group lowers the wavenumber value of ν(CC) by 8 cm−1 from the mean value of 1657 cm−1. Conjugation of the triple bond with the carbonyl group gives rise to a single Raman band due to ν(CC) at 2241 cm−1 whereas the non-conjugated, non-terminal triple bond gives a Fermi resonance doublet at 2234 and 2293 cm−1.
