Several new bis(pentafluorophenyl) nickel (II) complexes with O,O- and O,N-donor ligands were prepared by directly reacting the hydroxo-complex [{Ni(C6F5)2(μ-OH)}2]2− with the protic acids oxalic (H2ox), glycine (Hgly), picolinic (Hpic), 2-aminobenzoic (Hambz), acetohydroxamic (Haha) and benzohydroxamic (Hbha) to give the μ-oxalate and mononuclear anionic complexes [Ni(C6F5)2(L–L)]− (L–L = O–O or O–N ligand). Reaction of the di-μ-hydroxo precursor with monooximes of diacetyl (Hdamo), benzyl (Hdbmo), 2-acetylpyridine (Hapmo) and 2-benzylpyridine (Hbpmo) also yielded the expected pentafluorophenyl derivatives [Ni(C6F5)2(L–L)]−. All the complexes have been characterized by partial elemental analyses, conductance measurements, and spectroscopic (IR, and 1H and 19F NMR) methods.
