Mechanical properties and microstructure of 316L-galvanized STEEL (cas 12597-69-2) weld

Galvanized STEEL (cas 12597-69-2) is welded to stainless steel for various structural applications. In this regard, the effect of zinc on the mechanical properties of galvanized low carbon steel and 316L stainless steel weld was studied. Welding was done using two shielding gas combinations; Ar + 2%O2 and Ar + 2%He + 2%O2 and with and without the presence of galvanized coating at the weld location. Various mechanical tests were done on the samples and the results were compared. Microstructural characterization was carried out to understand and explain the mechanical behaviour of the welded specimens.
