Analysis of the neutron powder pattern of uranium pentabromide shows its structure to be of the triclinic β-UCl5 type, and not the α-PaBr5 type as proposed by earlier workers. Refinement by the profile fitting technique shows it to consist of U2Br10 dimers, the anions being in a simple hexagonal close packed arrangement.
