1.The urinary bladder of the tortoise,Damonia subtrijuga, acidified its mucosal surface and increased the pH at its serosal surfacein vitro.2.Acetazolamide reduced this acid-base transport, apparently by reducing the H+ or HCO3- available for transport.3.Betazole increased acid-base transport, apparently by increasing the H+ or HCO3- available for transport, and by increasing the permeability of the mucosal epithelial cells.4.HCO3- at the mucosal surface increased, and at the serosal surface decreased, acid-base transport.
