Cell surface membranes isolated from embryo cells (cell line MRRL-CH) of Manducasexta grown in continuous culture hydrolyzed Beta-(2-furyl)-acryloyl phosphate (FAP) with a Km ⋍ 0.11 mM. The effect of Mg2+, Na+, K+, and the insect steroid 20-hydroxyecdysone on FAP hydrolysis were briefly examined.Complete inhibition of the K+-stimulated hydrolase activity by Ouabain (0.1 mM) indicated that the reaction under investigation was a partial reaction of the (Na+,K+) ATPase.
