The Effects of Holothurin on Trypanosoma musculi Infection in FN (Fawn) Female Mice

SummaryThe effect of holothurin on Trypanosoma musculi infection in FN mice indicated that the drug administered prior to, simultaneously with and after inoculation of trypanosomes affected the parasitemic level during the course of infection. The infection was measured by the numbers of trypanosomes at the peak and throughout the course of infection. In the present study, the untreated controls receiving trypanosomes had higher parasitemias 7 to 15 days post inoculation in one experiment and throughout the entire duration of second experiment as compared to the treated experimental groups. The mechanism of action of the steroid saponin (holothurin) was not determined.
