2,6-Dimethylaniline, 2,4-dimethylaniline, 4-chloro-2,6-dimethylaniline, 4-bromo-2,6-dimethylaniline and 2,6-dimethyl-4-iodoaniline have been oxidized by the peroxidase system and the products examined in detail. 2,4-Dimethylaniline gives 2,5-dimethyl-p-benzoquinonebis-(2,4-dimethyl)anil thus providing the first recorded example of the migration of a methyl group during a peroxidase catalysed oxidation.
