  • Effect of hydroxy-aluminum polymer (cas 12703-68-3)ic Cations on Acidity of Cross-Linked Hydroxy-Aluminom Smectites

  • Add time:08/26/2019    Source:sciencedirect.com

Three cross-linked hydroxy-aluminum bentonites were synthesized by reactions of Na-bentonite respectively with three hydroxy-Al polymers with different polymeric degrees. Acidity of cross-linked hydroxy-Al bentonites with same amounts of bentonite and aluminum entering the clay interlayers increases with increase of polymeric degree of hydroxy-Al polymer cations. Dehydration-dehydroxylation of interlayering hydroxy-Al pillars between 300°-600°C causes the polymeric structure of the pillars progressively to decompose and the acidity decreases with increasing temperature. This further assumes that the acidity is mainly from the polymeric structure of interlayering pillars affected by the clay layers. In stoichiometric cross-linking reactions the higher the polymeric degree of hydroxy-Al cations, the more is the amount of aluminum exchanging into bentonite.
