This chapter is a comprehensive review of the organometallic chemistry of cobalt that has been published between 1993 and early 2005. The four main sections of this chapter cover (i) the hydride derivatives, (ii) the η1-hydrocarbyl compounds of Con+ (–2 < n < 6), (iii) the (ηn-hydrocarbyl)cobalt compounds (n = 2–5), and (iv) the homonuclear cobalt cluster compounds. An emphasis has been put on reactivity as well as on specific properties of the various organometallic compounds studied rather than on basic organometallic chemistry.
