Publisher SummaryFlurazepam hydrochloride is 7-chloro-1-(2- [diethylamino] ethyl)-5-(o-fluorophenyl)-1,3-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one dihydrochloride. Flurazepam hydrochloride occurs as off-white to yellow, nearly odorless, crystalline powder. Flurazepam hydrochloride melts with decomposition within a 5 ° range between 208° and 218°C when the USP XVIII Class Ia procedure is used. On the other hand flurazepam hydrochloride exhibits no optical activity. There are several methods available to determine the amount of carbon-bonded fluorine. One of the earlier methods employed the Schoniger Combus tion technique followed by thorium nitrate or cerous chloride titration using sodium alizarin sulfonate or murexide as the indicator. With the advent of good specific ion electrodes , methods were developed to liberate t h e bound fluorine and directly measure the fluoride concentration. This chapter highlights the physical properties, synthesis, stability degradation, metabolic products, and methods of analysis of flurazepam hydrochloride.
