Isatin-conjugated 3H-indole-N-oxides were synthesized from isatin-derived propargylic alcohols and nitrosobenzenes in moderate yields. Isatin-conjugated 3H-indole-N-oxides were converted to novel spiroindolenines under PPh3-mediated deoxygenation reaction condition, serendipitously.
