The two ternary hydrides Sr2RhH5 and Sr8Rh5H23 can be synthesized by reacting strontium hydride with rhodium in a hydrogen atmosphere. The former compound has already been described by Moyer et al. Using neutron diffraction experiments on the deuterated compound we can determine the atomic arrangement of the deuterium atoms in addition to that of the metal atoms. The structure corresponds to the K2PtCl6 type structure with the chlorine sites statistically occupied by 56. The complete structural determination of the second hydride Sr8Rh5H23 leads to an atomic arrangement which represents a transition from the K2PtCl6 type to the perovskite type.
