The reactivity of thorium-phosphorus bonds was investigated with Benzophenone (cas 119-61-9). The insertion of two equivalents of benzophenone into both thorium-phosphorus bonds in (C5Me5)2Th[PH(2,4,6-R3C6H2)]2, R = Me or iPr, was observed. In addition, a new thorium polyphosphide complex, (C5Me5)2Th(P3Ph3) is reported from the reaction of (C5Me5)2ThCl2 with Na2(P4Ph4)(DME)3.
