Cs0.1Rb0.9HSO4 has Mr = 187.2 is monoclinic and belongs to space group P21/c, with a = 14.444 Å, b = 4.618 Å, c = 14.877 Å, β = 121.20°, V = 848.8 Å3, Z = 8, Dx = 2.918 g Cm−3, λ(MoKα) = 0.710 73 Å, μ(MoKα) = 114.31 mm−1, F(000) = 718, T = 298 K (room temperature phase), R = 0.057 and wR = 0.065 for 1884 observed reflexions. The Cs0.1Rb0.9HSO4 structure type has a layer structure. It deviates slightly from the RbHSO4 one. Thermal analysis (differential scanning calorimetry traces) indicates a new ferroelectric transition at about 250 K as for pure RbHSO4, while the transition to the superionic phase near 415 K (analogous to II → III in pure CsHSO4) is eliminated. Infrared and Raman studies between 10 and 4000 cm−1 at various temperatures were carried out and some information about the strength and lengthening of hydrogen bonding aregiven.
