Two new natural pteridines have been isolated from the cultured medium of Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides GM-1. The compounds are tentatively identified as 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydroxybutyl)pteridine and 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-(3-hydroxy-4-phosphonoxy-1-butenyl)pteridine by degradative experiments and by electrophoretic and paper chromatographic comparison with authentic materials.
