1.1. Hemoglobin A was modified with many reducing sugars and with acetylsalicylate.2.2. The solubilities of the glycosylated hemoglobins were substantially higher than the unmodified control both in oxygenated and m deoxygenated conformations.3.3. A slight decrease in solubility was observed for the acetylated hemoglobin.4.4. With deoxyhemoglobin S increases in solubility were found for each of these modifiers, but the reducing monosaccharides seemed to be the better anti-sickling agents.
