57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography reveal that 1′,1‴-bis(3-phenylpropyl)-1,1″-biferrocenium triiodide shows an intermediate mixed-valence state between the typical temperature-independent trapped-valence state and typical `fusion type' valence detrapping.
