Librational modes of water in nickel formate dihydrate

Add time:09/07/2019 Source:sciencedirect.com
Two sets of bands corresponding to each of the wagging, twisting and rocking modes of water and the planar ν3 mode of the formate ion are deduced from the IR (at room and low temperatures) and Raman (at room temperature) spectra in the region 1000-400 cm−1 of powdered samples of dihydrate (dideuterate) and anhydrous nickel formate. The observed bands are correlated with the known crystal structure. The ν3 mode of the formate ion exhibits a strong anharmonic coupling with the nearby rocking mode of water.
