  • Sterol-Mycobacillin (cas 18524-67-9) interaction in a monolayer

  • Add time:09/05/2019    Source:sciencedirect.com

The isotherms, π-A curves at air-water interface for mycobacillin, cholesterol, ergosterol, ergocalciferol, stigmasterol and cholesterol benzoate show that the antibiotic is compressible and collapses at 11.5 dyn/cm whereas the sterols are generally incompressible and do not show collapse within the limits of our experiments. The isotherms of a binary mixture of mycobacillin with any one of the sterols in several molar proportions showed marked condensation with cholesterol, complete absence of condensation with cholesterol benzoate and feeble condensation with the rest of sterols. The implications of these findings are discussed in favour of sterol-mycobacillin interaction to account for reversal of mycobacillin inhibition by sterols.
