The square planar complexes cis-[MCl2(hypy)], cis-[MCl2(hyqu)], [Pt(hypy)2] [PtCl4], [Pd(hypy)2][ClO4]2 and [Pd(hyqu)2][ClO4]2 (M = Pd or Pt, hypy = 2-hydrazinopyridine, hyqu = 8-hydrazinoquinoline), in which hypy and hyqu act as bidentate chelating ligands, have been prepared and characterized. Complexes containing hyqu do not appear to have been isolated previously.
