SummaryPeriodic observations on soil respiration revealed that the application of MCPB had inhibitory effect on oxygen consumption, particularly at low concentrations. The application of farm yard manure (FYM) proved not only stimulatory, but it also counteracted the toxic effect of MCPB. Disyston, on the other hand, showed beneficial effect on microbial activity, indicated by increased CO2 evolution, which was further stimulated with the application of FYM.
