A convenient, reproducible two-step method for preparing 6,6-dimethylbicyclo[3.1.1]heptane-2,4-dione is described. The method involves isomerizing the double bond of commercially available (−)-verbenone as previously described, followed by ozonolysis to give the desired product in good yield.
