1-Methyl-2-cyclohexen-1-ol has been prepared by a three step synthesis from 1-methylcyclohexene, in greater than 94% e.e., via a ‘merged substitution–elimination reaction’ between NaSePh and 2-methyl-2-hydroxycyclohexyl p-toluenesulphonate.
