We demonstrated a simple, fast, reliable quantitative spectrophotometry based approach to estimate ZPT in a suspension as an alternative to conventional HPLC based technique. By appropriately dosing known amount of copper ions, we could displace the “relatively labile” zinc ion from the crystal lattice of ZPT. Both direct and indirect measurements on the ZPT content by complexation of the displaced zinc ions in solution with xylenol orange and the residual copper ions as its polyethyleneimine complex after the precipitation of copper Pyrithione (cas 1121-30-8) could be obtained with high accuracy and precision. Both direct and indirect estimation techniques suggest that the efficiency of determination lies between 81–118% of the predicted value based on the nature of analysis involved.
