The principal resin acids of Pinus sylvestris needles are pinifolic acid and its monomethyl ester. Manoyl oxide acid was found to be the major needle resin acid in very few Scots pine trees in Sweden. The structure of manoyl oxide acid was studied by high-field NMR techniques.
