Decamethonium (C10) is a bisquaternary methonium compound with selectivity for blockade of the muscle nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. It produces a depolarizing type of neuromuscular blockade and does not affect ganglionic nicotinic receptors. Its actions are similar to those of succinylcholine. It has been used clinically to produce neuromuscular blockade, but is no longer available for therapeutic use. It is used in research to produce muscle relaxation.
