Titanium(IV)-pyridinediol complex 5 was studied as a model for titanium-tartrate asymmetric epoxidation catalysts. The sign of induction depended on the alkyl group of the alkyl hydroperoxide oxidant. Trityl hydroperoxide gave 64% ee in the direction predicted by the model.
