The crystal structures of the complexes diaquabis[4-phenoxy)butanoato] nickel(II) (1), diaquabis[4-(4-chlorophenoxy)butanoato]nickel(II) (2) and the acids 4-(4-chlorophenoxy)butanoic acid (3) and 4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)butanoic acid (4) have been determined using X-ray diffraction techniques. The yellow complexes 1 and 2 are isomorphous and isostructural and have distorted octahedral MO6 stereochemistry with two slightly asymmetric bidentate carboxylate groups [NiO, 2.062, 2.181(2) Å, (1) and 2.068, 2.175(2) Å, (2)] and two waters [NiO, 2.021(1) Å, (1) and 2.016(2) Å, (2)]. The planar conformation of the acids 3 and 4 is retained in the complexes 1 and 2.
