The present study demonstrates the biooxidation of 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene to the corresponding hydroxyalkyi metabolites, 7-hydroxymethylbenz[a]anthracene, 7-hydroxymethyl-12-methylbenz[a] anthracene, and 7,12-dihydroxymethylbenz[a]anthracene in the dorsal subcutaneous tissue of the rat, in vivo, a tissue highly susceptible to the carcinogenic action of 7,12-dimethylbenz[a] anthracene.
